AWCON 2018: Super Falcons of Nigeria emerged Champions

 Super Falcons, yesterday retained the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) title after beating South Africa's Banyana Banayana 4-3 on penalties to win their ninth title. There was no goal during the match and even the extra time, then the shootout drama ensued. Team Captain Onome Ebi missed the first kick to give South Africa hope, but on their third kick Banyana  Banyana shot wide, while Tochukwu saved the last kick to bring joy to the hearts of the Super Falcons and pain to the South African women who were poised to win their first title.  The Super Falcons of Nigeria, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa and the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will represent Africa at 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The Super Falcons will battle for the tenth AWCON title with the South Africa's Bafana Bafana females team on Saturday December 1, 2018. Mali and Cameroon with play for third-place off.

Sad day for football as former English football Star, Darren Pitcher dies at the age of 49

Darren Pitcher a former English professional football and former Crystal Palace midfielder has been reported dead at the age of 49. Though the cause of his death is yet to be known but it was confirmed by his former clubs. Darren Pitcher featured for the Eagles as well as Charlton Athletic before his injury cut short his football career. The dead of the former Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace defender broke earlier on Monday with both clubs confirming his passing away on their website. Darren Pitcher, during his active days made 214 appearances with 12 goals to his credit for the League one side (Charlton) between 1988 and 1994. After which he joined the Eagles in 1994 and netted twice in 83 matches after five seasons at the Selhurst Park. He was part of the team which returned to their home stadium at the Valley on December 5, 1992, and crowned the winners in their 1-0 win over Portsmouth. Didier Yves Drogba Tébily (French  pronunciation: ​ [didje dʁɔɡba]) was  born on 11 March 1978).  He is an Ivorian retired professional footballer who played as a  striker.  Didier Drogba is the all-time top scorer and former captain of the Ivory Coast national team. Claudio Ranieri returns to England as the EPL-winning coach has been announced as Fulham’s new manager. Nigeria to play against South Africa on November 17, 2018

The French national team will be taking the sum of $38 million as the 2018 FIFA World Cup prize money for winning the tournaments, Business Insider reveals. This is an increase of $3 million from the 2014 World Cup cash prize for a winner. The French side beat Croatia 4-2 in final played at the Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday, July 15 to win the title for the second time. The first time was in 1998. Apart from France, Croatia will also be heading home with $28 million while the third-place and the fourth-place teams will take $24 million and $22 million respectively. On the African side, Nigerian Super Eagles and other teams who qualified for the Russia 2018 World Cup will take $8 million each as participating compensation.
