The dead of the former Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace defender broke earlier on Monday with both clubs confirming his passing away on their website.
Darren Pitcher, during his active days made 214 appearances with 12 goals to his credit for the League one side (Charlton) between 1988 and 1994. After which he joined the Eagles in 1994 and netted twice in 83 matches after five seasons at the Selhurst Park.
He was part of the team which returned to their home stadium at the Valley on December 5, 1992, and crowned the winners in their 1-0 win over Portsmouth.
The former defender also played a key role to help Palace reach the semi-finals of both the League Cup and FA Cup in his first season.
However, the mirror revealed that his career was prematurely ended due to serious knee injury he suffered against Huddersfield following a challenge from Paul Reid during a first Division match on August 31, 1996.
Darren Pitcher was said to have joined Leyton Orient during 1998, but was unable to play as a professional footballer afterwards.
In 2001, Pitcher lost his case of alleged negligence against Huddersfield at the High Court, in which he was seeking damages of more than £1 million.
After dumping football, Pitcher choose a new life as building trade worker.
While reacting to his dead, Charlton historian Colin Cameron said that: "What was admirable about Pitcher was his attitude, patience and determination to improve his game.
